Indigenous children make up 7% of all children in Canada, yet account for nearly half of all children in the foster system! Foster care can be a scary, confusing, and lonely place, but it can be a little less frightening with the Foster Care series. These picture books for Indigenous kids in the foster system help children navigate the fears and confusions of foster care.

As part of an on-going series of books for Indigenous children, each is illustrated, and uses items and practices sacred to Indigenous culture. Each of these practices and items is explained after the story, and includes visual imagery.

Each book is also written in both English, and Anishinaabemowin, the Indigenous language of the Anishinaabeg First Nations people.

Little Bear in Foster Care, written for preschoolers and Kindergarteners, speaks to the feelings and fears a little one has while lost in a confusing and unfamiliar environment. It helps guide the child though the process, and let them know they are not alone.
